Digital Scrapbooking As a Basis For a Traditional Scrapbook
Digital scrapbooking seems to continue gaining moment among younger folks and those who are new to scrapbooking. It is a good way to get into the hobby without making an extensive investment in materials.
It's also a good way to test the water before jumping into traditional scrapbooking - just in case it turns out to not be your cup of tea. We offer digital scrapbooking software and tools through our partnership with Scrapbook Max and Scrap Girls - check them out if you have a hankering.
I use digital scrapbooking tools a little differently than some. Because I have a 20 year background in graphic arts (printing and graphic design), I am very familiar with the Adobe suite of graphics applications including Illustrator and Photoshop - both of which I often use to create backgrounds in a digital environment.
When I can't seem to find the perfect embellishments to make my vision a reality, I will often create a background in Photoshop that represents my vision. I will then print the background and use is as a 'custom decorative paper' if you will.
This allows me to have a vibrant background that matches my vision and I will then add the photos and additional dimensional elements right on top of the digitally created background.
Some folks don't care much for this technique, but I really enjoy the blend of old and new. I don't do it a lot, but it sure comes in hand to use digital scrapbooking as a basis for a traditional scrapbook layout when you just can't find the perfect scrapbooking supplies to make it happen in a dimensional realm.
